World Series - Championship Gold Bracelets

June 22, 2007

So the WSOP has been underway since the start of June and so far not so much as a mention on this blog …

Hell scrawnybob is this a poker blog or not ?

Well yes and no

Of course this is a poker blog but I’m a realist, 4kingpokerblog cannot try and compete with the big boys in poker news reporting - With a cast of millions (nearly), 10’s of reporters, chip counters at their disposal etc etc there are frankly much better places for you to get up to date info on the event like here …

Pokernews - Damn good at it and with exclusive live chip counts

WorldSeriesofPoker - The horse’s mouth

So rather than run around trying to do a poor man’s version I’m sticking with my random rants & related poker stuff.

But for those of you who who havent got time read through the hours of fine resources available covering all 55 World Series events in the greatest of detail - I’ve decided to do some quick news posts on the main site with a summary of the 12 (13 if you count the seniors event) Gold World Championship Bracelet Events …

Here is the short version so far …

  World Series 2007 - Event 24 $3k 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo Split
World Series 2007 Event 18 - $3,000 World Championship seven card stud Hi-Lo split winner Eli Elezra wins $198,984.

World Series 2007 - Event 18 $5k Limit Holdem
World Series 2007 Event 18 - $5,000 World Championship Limit Holdem winner Saro Getzoyan wins $333,379.

World Series 2007 - Event 17 $1k Ladies NL Holdem
World Series 2007 Event 17 - $1,000 World Championship Ladies No-Limit Holdem winner Sally Anne Boyer wins $262,077.

World Series 2007 - Event 13 $5k Pot Limit Holdem
World Series 2007 Event 1 - $5,000 World Championship Pot Limit Holdem winner Allen Cunningham wins $487,287.

World Series 2007 - Event 11 $5k Seven-Card Stud
WSOP 2007 Event 11 - $5,000 World Championship Seven-card Stud winner Chris Redlock wins $258,483.

World Series 2007 - Event 1 $5k Mixed
World Series 2007 Event 1 - $5,000 World Championship Mixed Holdem (limit/no-limit) Winner Steve Billrakis wins $536,287.

There are some YouTube videos on some of them and I’ll try to add more when I get a chance
In the meantime I doff my cap to the guys over at WickedChopsPoker blog (man I wish I had the staff) with probably the best off the wall WSOP story so far …

check out … Chair finishes 22nd at WSOP and wins $12,468

cheers scrawnybob

Tycoon - Balls of paper mache

June 21, 2007

I’ve waited with bated breath for the launch of Tycoon the series on ITV that see’s would be tycoon’s pick up some cash from entrepeneur Peter Jones to develop their ideas.

He is apparently on a mission to find the UK’s next tycoon …

So far it seems like a search far from over.

But he appears to have found a very strong contenter for the award of “Most lame assed idea of the century since the head mounted toilet roll holder” in the shape of Justin.

Brain or Balls of Paper Mache ?

Best ask your wife … again

How this got past the brainstoming session in the pub I will never know. Basically he’s trying to solve a real problem - the waste of supermarket carrier bags with a solution that is neither needed nor environmentally friendly.

He is going to try and sell a bag like device that you hang on your shopping trolley bag which holds your old carrier bags so you can re-use them at the checkout.

Errr … Whats wrong with the tried and tested method of putting them inside another carrier bag ?

At the moment my money is on the ladies with the SOD men gardening company winning but I guess anything could happen - Apart from the fruit / vodka drink lady being able to move mountains that is.

The Apprentice - Am I a reality TV snob ?

June 14, 2007

OK so I have to admit that whilst I have less than zero time for Big Brother I do like to watch the wanabee entrepenures kiss Sir Alan’s ass in the BBC’s Apprentice.

And as much as the latest incarnation of series 12 of “Ballroom dancing on ice dressed as joseph singing the sound of music” leaves me cold I’m gutted if I miss an episode of The Apprentice or Dragons Den.

Does this make me a reality TV snob ?

Well yep I guess so - In the same way that the celebrity obsessed and talentless wanabee’s look to Big Brother to see just how long you can talk about nothing of substance … I can’t help but watch the apprentice to see how inept these so called highflyers are and just how much bull they will spout to claw their way to the top.

Anyone for childs vomit in Araldite ?

What amazes me is the total lack of common sense in middle management and the business world - I mean come on out of 10,000 this was the best of the bunch ?

What scares me even more is that they probably ARE the best of the applicants. I could mention the Katie scandals and the sleeze but the thing that always brings me back is the cringe worthy bitching and in ability to make simple obvious decisions.

I have to be honest I’m not that interested in the highroller lifestyle of naff gold tabs or a flash car but to me it’s a wonder half of them even had decent jobs to quit in their quest to become the apprentice.

Lohit spouted nonsense, he was a walking wordsicle and never really got to the point if in fact he ever really knew what his point was. Paul was a muppet, in fact they were all muppets - Thankfully Sir Alan is a no bull businessman (this is probably why he has what he has) and finally he narrowed it down to two.

But the question are business peoples and UK business learning from any of this ?

Or does 90% of UK middle management watch it, cringe like hell and then turn up for work the next day fitting back into the bullshit bingo culture playing the game and not rocking the boat as long as the bonuses keep coming ? My guess is yes.

Simon the eventual winner was probably the best of a bad bunch although as the series progressed I wanted to see Trey in the final - yes he was a loose cannon but he always said it as he saw it and his character stuck out in a bunch of chinless wonders and ego maniacs.

So the final came down to Simon and Christina after the evil publicity seeking Katie became the new Nasty Nick in the tabloids. She then randomly boasted in last interview that she had a BA gold card … I mean please … if thats really impresses someone would you really want to impress them in the first place.

Evil Egotist Katie v The Ever Slow Paul

The last task between the two remaining finalists is always the best. It gives the viewer a refresher of just how terrible the other contentants were when they come back to help out. You’d have throught they would use it as an opportunity for them to try and put themselves in a better light …

But no they come back like lambs to the slaughter having learnt nothing … Rory still the self opinionated toff “designer” with no creativity, Adam the still gobby car salesman & Paul the lacklustre home counties boy who got his leg over with Katie (who I pity more I don’t know).

I guess as they have all in one way or another torpedoed their business careers we can only look forward to a raft of second rate channel 12 business related shows. Although the odds are long on Simon presenting under the hammer or the TV guide to being a good landlord.

The good thing is no sooner has The Apprentice run its course than we have another batch coming through in ITV’s Tycoon a new series with Peter Jones of Dragons Den fame - certain to be better than that Ruth Badger’s attempt at TV.
