Pro Am Poker Equalizer part 1

June 9, 2008

This poker video shows and interestingly different take on poker tournaments. Pitting professional poker players up against celebrity recreational poker players the twist is that the amateurs start with a 3 to 2 chip advantage to give the pro’s something of a handicap. This is quite a cool idea similar to handicaps for golf players leveling the playing field.

Mike Sexton Owning Mike Matusow

June 2, 2008

An interesting poker video mainly for the entertainment of watching Daniel Negreanu baiting Mike “the mouth” Matusow for getting his hands caught in the till.

Mike Sexton cannily looks up Mike Matusow with only a pair of 3’s correctly deciding Matusow made a pot sizes bluff on the river and clearly deciding that his three’s were more likely to be good than Matusow was to actually have a strong hand. Mike Sexton best known for is poker commentary is also a good poker player in his own right, having picked up several poker titles notably the WSOP TOC (Tournament of Champions) 2006.

How not to play aces against 72

May 26, 2008

This classic poker video is from the WSOP 2006 $15,000 pot limit event. With a hand between Rafe Furst picking up pocket aces and Can Kim Hau who gets to limp in with the worst starting hand in poker … 72 off. Furst illustrating how not to play pocket aces allowing other players to limp in to see the flop. Unluckily the flop comes 77Q taking the worst hand to best but at the end of the day a crucial error in reading the table from Furst enabled this to happen … even if your trying to slow play aces and predicting some action it’s always worth putting in some kind of raise to at least reduce the range of calling hands.

Going on to flat call the flop when Hau bets straight out with his trips again doesn’t really get Furst anymore information on how much trouble he may be in. The 3 on the turn helps no-ones hand but enables Hau to check expecting a bet from Furst. Interestingly Furst bets and Hau re-raises all-in and Furst calls … Bear in mind that at this point Furst is very much behind and Hau very much ahead. So when the river finds and ace Furst effectively got out of hot water with a 5% chance coming off … so while alot of players would think this was justice in reality when all the money went in … Furst’s pocket aces were very much behind.

Bodog Poker Predators

May 19, 2008

Bodog Poker promo video featuring different types of player at the poker tables … your not going to learn anything from this but it’s a nice slick video capturing some of the allure of playing poker … and everyone is going to identify or more likely want to identify with one of the characters.

Daniel Negreanu amazing reads at WSOP

May 12, 2008

Daniel Negreanu does make some amazing reads on marginal hands and figures when he has the best or it or when he’s dominated. Not only is he a great player to watch but I think he would be an entertaining player to loose to (if that were possible). This is an interesting series of hands showing just how well the pro’s can play the players and hands and not just their own hands.
