More 4king Poker Tournaments

March 14, 2008

The current 4 private poker tournament leagues running at 4kingpoker.com are coming to a climax in the next couple of weeks. We will be setting up a new series of league games starting early in April. In order to make them even more competitive we will be putting both freerolls and $1 buy-ins into the same leagues all with $50 added to the prize pool.

There will be two new leagues -

The US Open at sites open to all members including US players which will run over 12 weeks with a $50 freeroll on Thursdays followed by a $1 buy-in with $50 added on the Sunday - so thats a total of 24 games over 12 weeks.

The Euro / non US league will run at an earlier time slot better suited to European members again running over 12 weeks with a $50 freeroll on Thursdays followed by a $1 buy-in with $50 added on the Sunday - so thats a total of 24 games over 12 weeks.

To fill the week gap between the current and new leagues I’ve sorted out some special one off $100 freeroll tournaments …

$100 Freeroll at RedKings Poker

On Thursday 27th March we will be holding a $100 freeroll at RedKings Poker for our non US / European members. RedKings is on the very popular OnGame network and we have a choice of 100% bonuses up to $1000 in our RedKings Poker Review.

$100 Freeroll at Cake Poker

On Sunday 30th March we will be holding a $100 freeroll at Cake Poker for all our players including US members. Cake Poker is a rapidly growing site which is proving very popular especially as its open to US players check out our Cake Poker Review for a 100% up to $500 bonus.

Cake Poker

888.com Freeroll - Win $1000 seat in WPC Final

It doesn’t stop there we have got our biggest ever tournament coming up in April - We are running an exclusive tournament to Win a $1000 ticket to play in the World Poker Crown final for our signups to 888.com Pacific Poker. The WPC Final has a massive $3 million in prize money with a million going to the winner of the live final which will be played in Barcelona.

Our tournament to win a seat at the WPT final will be held around a week before the online final at the end of April. The tournament is open to all existing and new signups to 888.com Pacific Poker via our links (Unfortunately 888.com Pacific Poker is closed to US players).

6000th Member celebrations - $660 added to $1 tournament series

All is not lost for all our US players we are currently organising a week long series of ten $1 buy-in tournaments each with $60 added to the prize pool at one of our recommended sites open to all players including the US. This is to mark the poker forum reaching the 6000 member mark (hopefully during the event) … so watch this space for more information or check the 4kingpoker.com poker tournaments page for updates.

so that’s great news all round

Updates coming on 4kingpoker forum

March 7, 2008

As well as the massive promotion we have for our non US visitors and members who signup for a Pacific poker account using our links / banners (see our 888.com World Poker Crown Tournament ) we should finally be doing some of the poker forum upgrades I’ve been talking about this weekend. The forum layout was getting a bit confusing for new members to understand and so things should be clearer about rules & posting requirements. Also members will be able to find our private tournament results and schedules more easily rather than them being tucked away.

On my mimimum deposit poker challenge front - I haven’t had much time to play so in brief I’m around $5 up at Titan Poker this week and around $5 down at Pacific Poker but still up overall. I should get a bit more time on this challenge in the next week and also a couple of MTT’s in at PKR for the other multi-table tournament challenge.

We are getting close to the end of the current leagues which will finish towards the end of March. I will also be announcing a couple of additional non league $100 freerolls in the last week of which will be at Cake Poker (open to US players) & RedKings Poker (Ongame which is closed to US players) so check out our reviews and get signed up to the sites ready for the the freerolls.

We have been developing some improved newsletter software for our monthly newsletter for our visitors and members which should be up and running soon - this will include a short “27 simple secrets to online poker success” for all subscribers.

Back from my poker break

February 25, 2008

Well it almost seems like a lifetime but it was just a week off on holiday. Things are hopefully getting back on track in the forum with the spam and iffy posts swept out the way.

I’d been hoping to do a bit more of the admin while I was away at an internet cafe but as you probably know they can be something of a mixed bag. The one I ended up frequenting was on the nextdoor to useless variety. The keyboard was missing keys and being in France featured a very frustrating keyboard only useful if you needed all the accents etc or liked to have a layout only loosely based on the qwerty keyboard.

Needless to say the ski slopes proved more tempting than bashing my head against a brick wall trying to get PM’s and admin done at a snails pace.

Anyway I’ve come back from a few days on the piste in Andorra suitably refreshed dispite a 5 hour delay on what was meant to be a 90 minute flight.

I’m playing in the final satellite tonight at PKR Poker for a seat at the GUKPT final in London. And (using a handy time machine) I can tell you I came a none to impressive 49th out of 270 odd players ($3000 GUKPT packages went to the top 12 players) but it was really enjoyable to be playing in a MTT for a change. The buy-in was $150 so my bankroll management hasnt improved for the break but I figured what the hell.

This leads me into what is going to be another occasional side project in addition to the minimum bankroll challenge (havent had time for that at the tables in the last week or two). So now I’m also going to be playing only MTT’s at PKR starting with a $350 bankroll (less the $150 from today) and see what happens. I’ll try to stick to some kind of bankroll management from now on as the GUKPT thing was just something I promised myself a couple of months back. So I’m going to be playing sub $10 Multi Table Tournaments (ok maybe up to $20) mainly to get back into the swing of the longer games but hopefully showing some positive results before the bankroll gets too low.

The backlog of work has piled up since going away but hopefully with re-newed energy after the break I’m hoping to get more done on 4kingpoker and the other sites.

UPDATE: In order to help keep the forums spam under control and the forum duff post free we now have a “report spam / posts” button at the top right of all the posts - look out for the red and white triangle - So if you spot something that doesnt look right hit that button and I’ll check it out.

Good Luck at the tables

The European Union is unhappy with the recent decision by the German government to legislate against online poker. The EU is planning legal action against the Germany on the grounds of it being against cross border competition laws and should be good news for German online poker players.

Huge crowds formed to watch the fire and traffic on the Las Vegas Strip was gridlocked as the fire on the roof of the 32-story casino & hotel sent flaming debris raining down and charred part of the “Monte Carlo” sign. Authorities said 17 people suffered minor injuries in the blaze, which firefighters got under control in about an hour.

I haven’t had much chance to play this week as I have been at a poker convention. The conference was great fun and really good to meet up with alot of the poker room’s but I’m now quite sleep deprived. Anyway we should have some new reviews on 4kingpoker with more great poker bonuses and I’ve also arranged for some more suprise tournaments for members too.

Scrawnybob’s Minimum Deposit Poker Challenge

I’ve increased my bankroll a bit at Pacific Poker up to $45.65 and at Titan Poker up to $11.65 which is steady but progress. However I took a bit of a beating at Bodog with KK getting crushed and getting a bit tilty after that I think I’m now down to $25.76 which isn’t great but it was never going to be an upward straight line building my bankroll.

The aim is to get each of the bankroll’s up to $200 each, which I think should be possible within around 60 hours play, so given that I’m playing with proper bankroll’s at other sites I will probably be playing an hour or two a week so this gives me until the end of the year fingers crossed.

Scrawnybob’s Minimum Deposit Poker Challenge & Why You Should Try New Poker Sites

January 21, 2008

This is the first progress report in the Scrawnybob Minimum Deposit Poker Challenge and unsuprisingly it’s been a bit of an up and down week.

After making early progress (within literally minutes) a couple of inevitable knock backs in other short sessions over the weekend have brought the challenge back into more realistic bounds.

Bodog Poker hasn’t seen me at the cash tables over the weekend but the original $10.00 deposit now stands at a healthy $45.76 balance. That’s +$17.98 after a couple of very short sessions making a total of 34mins (allowing for the previous balance of $27.78 before the challenge started last week).

This seems and is crazy but the key here is quitting while your ahead - If you get a run of good cards in double quick time - make the most of it - then bank it.

Titan Poker has been a different story with a starting balance of only $ 6.93 it was always going to be an uphill battle. I’d originally said that even with my bad bankroll management strategy for this project playing in anything other than the lowest $0.01/ 0.02 games would have been bad idea.

But I started out playing full table 0.01/0.02 games and was just getting battered by the overwelming number of bad players. The thing is individually bad players do not finish up in profit, but collectively they can and often will put you at a loss.

So I changed up to the 0.05/0.10 basically putting all my eggs into one basket and playing very very tight. At the higher (still lower stakes games) this wouldn’t really work on a short handed table as everyone would spot when you have a hand, but on these tables players are only to happy to contribute when you have a solid hand and they just have to call. As soon as I get a little up from any of the games I’m jumping out and banking the profit however small in $ terms every dollar is a 15%+ increase in my overall bankroll. Current Titan balance $8.76 + $1.83 (time played 60 minutes).

Pacific Poker has been a rollercoaster, with an instant $8 bonus on a $30 deposit I’m starting with a $38 bankoll. This is still a long way short of the $200 target for an appropriate bankroll for playing the $0.05/0.10 games.

Basically I raced out the gates doubling up on the $10 max buy-in at the 5/10 cent cash games in minutes. Then came back for another little session on Sunday which went badly wrong and saw me struggling with a couple of marginal bad beats (which come with the territory). Eventually after a couple more recovery games clawing back to a current balance $40.34 +$2.34 (time played 87 minutes).

Scrawnybob’s Minimum Deposit Poker Challenge Goal’s

I have no doubt Chris Ferguson would laugh at my really bad bankroll management strategy as I’m going to be risking a large percentage of my bankroll at any one time until I (hopefully) hit the $200 target bankroll on each of the poker rooms.

But it’s not a total crap shoot - the important thing is not to get bogged down in a game, however juicy. If you keep playing at a table that you’ve made a modest profit at thinking … just another couple of hands … I’ll double up or make another $5 - Then your risking the profit you’ve made and your original stake.

Better to leave a table in marginal profit and join another table than to be going to cashier section.

Why You Should Try New Poker Sites ?

I know we all have our favourite sites, software and tournament formats but there is a massive choice of good poker rooms out there - And it’s often worth a change of online poker scenery.

If you look at the top 30 or so poker rooms they all offer something a little different from each other but still with the security of being an established name or on an established network.

Freeroll’s (particularly 4kingpoker’s private games) offer the perfect risk-free opportunity to try out new poker sites to see what potential they offer. Having played at over 40 online poker rooms I’ve got used to having a desktop half full of poker icons - But I definately think new online players should at least try 4 or 5 sites giving more choice of tournaments, games and features.

While the biggest sites are great for the big gauranteed tournaments, satellites and choice of tables equally smaller sites offer good potential for smaller tournament fields and easier to beat competition at the cash tables - It really is worth exploring beyond your first poker site and trying out some new poker rooms.

Absolute Audit, Shannon Elizabeth & Scrawnybob’s Minimum Deposit Poker Challenge

January 14, 2008

Finally getting back into the swing of things, with alot of our tournament dates for the leagues getting confirmed things should start to get easier. This means I’ll have a bit more time to write articles etc with the admin finally getting under control.

Absolute Poker Audit by Kahnawake Gaming Commission

Anyway unless you’ve been under a virtual rock most poker players will know about the whole Absolute Poker potripper scandal … We’ve all been eagerly awaiting the results of the audit …

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission has fined Absolute Poker $500,000 for the way it handled the online poker cheating scandal at Absolute. They found that cheating did occur at the site for approximately six weeks starting in the middle of August 2007 and that Absolute Poker attempted to cover it up.

Minimum Deposit Poker Challenge

A while ago I mentioned the Chris Ferguson Zero to $10k Challenge and alot of the members in the forum have taken up similar projects - hoping to turn their freeroll winnings into a substantial bankroll.

As I’ve commented before personally I feel entering freerolls is alot of time for a low return and suggested that it would be better to skip a night down the pub and play from a minimum deposit.

So now I’m going to put my money where my mouth is and get playing some of my accounts that have minimal amounts in - those odd $11.83’s and $15 here and there and see what I can do with them.

4kingpoker.com is taking up so much of my time that I don’t get to play as much as I would like but I will be reporting back occasionally with bankroll reports. I generally play cash games on a low bankroll but I may dabble with the odd MTT as I enjoy the challenge of these more than grinding.

Alot of the time I build up a bit of a bankroll and then use this to pay for some of our private tournaments so record keeping has been at best a mental process.

Currently a couple of balances I’ll be working on …

Bodog … $10.00 deposit … now at $27.78

Titan Poker … $ 6.93

Pacific Poker … $30 (+$8 bonus) … $38

Feel free to post up your own minimum deposit poker challenge progress and results up in the 4kingpoker.com poker forum.

Good Luck at the Tables
