With such a string of longshot, underdog, unknown, young poker players winning some of the games biggest annual contests, it probably comes as a great relief to the professional poker community that one of their own has finally taken a top title. This time, that torch-bearer is David Benyamine.
The PartyPoker Premier League IV was an elite Sit & Go style poker tournament with a $100,000 buy-in. It took place at the M Resort Spa and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it attracted an A-list celebrity player pool that included WSOP Main Event champion Phil Hellmuth, Phil “The Unabomber” Laak (of the reently started Unabomber Poker on the Cake Poker Network), and Daniel Negreanu (now of the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge). In all there were 12 players at this year’s Party Poker Premier League event.
The tournament was set up in six 8-handed (single-table) heats, with every player required to participate in at least four of them. As a league-based competition, players were awarded points for every heat, with the winner receiving 16 points. For every point a player earned, they received $2,000.
One of the 12 prestigious players at the PartyPoker Premier League IV was an amaetur online poker player at home who won his seat in the PartyPoker Premier League IV event through a Party Poker satellite.
The PartyPoker Premier League IV was recorded for broadcast on American, British, and European television sometime later this year. Although so much of televised poker, especially in America, are either large sized multi-table tournaments or small cash games, the Sit & Go style PartyPoker Premier League IV televised broadcasts have become the most popular poker television broadcast in Europe and the UK.
