Duplicate Poker Closes as Credit Crunch Bites
October 8, 2008
This week news that Duplicate Poker has closed it’s doors as the Credit Crunch bites. The “skill based” poker room was originally launched offering a very different online poker experience, where players would compete with other players who were dealt the same poker hands. There performances were then compared and winners decided on who had played a better game of poker with the same run of hands.
This approach meant they marketed Duplicate Poker as a new brand of poker, totally legal in the US as it didnt involve “gambling” or “luck” in maybe the same way that some would argue conventional poker might. It seems that while alot of players tried out this variation on poker it hasn’t proved popular enough for them to gain critical mass or make it through the current credit crunch.
Duplicate Poker Closes … announcement on their homepage
Dear players,
Duplicate is sadly bidding farewell to its players. Caught in the middle of the global financial situation the company is not able to continue to provide service. We are a small victim of the global financial crisis.
Regretfully as of the today, October 5th, 2008 we are closing our service. We thank our players for being with us. Hopefully at later time and in a better economic climate Duplicate Poker will re-appear.
Sincerely,
The Duplicate Poker Team
They also add that players will be able to request to withdraw their bankrolls via the link on their homepage without any problems.
While clearly the duplicate poker hand concept was maybe an idea a bit ahead of its time it’s more likely to be remembered as a concept conceived to get round the grey legal area of poker in the US …
But it was always going to be a stuggle to get a critical mass of real money players onboard at Duplicate Poker while the conventional big players remained in the US market.
