Mike Sexton To Be Sole 2009 Poker Hall of Fame Inductee

October 19, 2009

After a much publicized nominations process that included no less than celebrity and poker site endorsements, the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame inductee list has finally been revealed, and it carries all of one single name …

Mike Sexton

The same Mike Sexton who is most popularly known as official co-commentator on the World Poker Tour televised broadcasts, but in the poker community his reputation goes much farther back.

And when poker entered cyberspace, so Mike Sexton, becoming the official Ambassador of Poker (his nickname on the circuit now) to Party Poker , which for a time was the world’s largest poker site and still today one of its most successful.

Many great players’ names were on the short list of nominees, including November Niner Phil Ivey, but Mike Sexton received over 75% of the final vote, giving him a landslide for Poker Hall of Fame induction. So much so that, as we said, he is the sole inductee for 2009.

This makes Mike Sexton, at 62 years old, the 38th member of the Poker Hall of Fame. He has a WSOP bracelet and the 2006 WSOP Tournament of Champions title (besting runner-up Daniel Negreanu for the $1 million prize). He is the top ten for most cashes at the WSOP and has a career winnings of over $3.7 million.

As Sexton pointed out in his acceptance speech, this is an especially great honor as this is the first time that the nomination process was extended to fans, current members of the Poker Hall of Fame, and the media. Basically that means everyone loves Mike!

In honor of Mike Sexton’s accomplishment, PartyPoker is hosting a $10,000 freeroll on November 7, the day he’ll be officially inducted.
