Phil Ivey Scores Over $1 Million In 1 Day
October 19, 2009
If anyone doubts whether it’s possible to become a millionaire overnight in online poker, just ask Phil Ivey. Not that he wasn’t a millionaire many times over to begin with. But in a sensational record-breaking day at Full Tilt Poker, Ivey raked in more than $1 million, boosting Phil Ivey’s Net Worth by a nice chunk … certainly not bad for a days work.
Granted, this is the same Phil Ivey who is in the November 9, the final table of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event, which if he wins will make him alone represent a ridiculous share of the entire world’s poker economy. But if one man can do it, so can another right (that’s man and woman, to be precise).
The date was October 7, 2009. Among Ivey’s online poker opponents that day on FullTilt were his traditional rivals Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Patrik Antonius, and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamias. Also contributing to Ivey’s big score that day were Chau Giang, Gus Hansen, and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond.
What makes this accomplishment especially interesting is that it didn’t occur on Full Tilt’s Pot Limit Omaha tables, which is where Phil Ivey was typically known to frequent, or even at the Full Tilt Poker HA tables, which he’s also known to be quite fond of, but at the newly introduced 7 Game tables mixing Limit and No Limit action these mixed poker games are similar to HORSE but with 7 games instead of 5 and are becoming an increasingly popular offering introduced into the Full Tilt lineup just last summer. Always one for the higher stakes tables, of course, Ivey earned much of his October 7 record breaking $1 million plus take at the high-roller 2,000/$4,000 7 Game tables.
